Why Sandry Fire Supply?
Why did we start Sandry Fire Supply? As I reflect on the start of what has become a huge part of my life, I am reminded of a simple event that sparked the birth of Sandry Fire. I was a very enthusiastic member of the Lansing IA Fire Department in NE Iowa. I was young, energetic and excited about being a part of the fire service. We took delivery of some new turnout gear (graduated from the long coats and tall boots – yes, I am old). Although I didn’t know much, I did recognize that the liner of our gear was not what I had expected. When I asked the representative, his response was the provided materials were “good enough” and “saved some money”. I immediately recognized that as NOT being the way I would like to do business.
So… the idea of supplying the fire service with the products THEY want, need, expect, desire sat in the back of my mind. And as I thought more and more about that, I became determined to serve communities in a different way. Although Sandry Fire has grown tremendously – much bigger than me – I still believe that fire departments DESERVE to have the products that they believe in. Sometimes that means we have to do some educating and exposing them to new ideas, but when it comes down to it, the customer is right.
We do not make EVERY sale that we seek, and I respect that. We are not always the right people or have the right products that fit the needs of the communities we serve. Although I may be disappointed because I DO TRULY BELIEVE in the products we represent, I DO RESPECT your choice.
I have come a long way since those days in Lansing, but I am thankful for each and every customer, employee, opportunity and relationship that has developed over the years.
